Shoefiti

shoetreesThere was a time when a gentleman who had bought a shiny new pair of shoes,  would also make sure he had appropriate shoe trees to put in the shoes when he wasn’t wearing them  so they would maintain their shape. It would appear that the term shoe tree has come to refer to actual trees that come spring sprout shoes. As the photos below indicate, the Acer griseum conversium is one such specimen, and the all-staresum Betula is also a very popular poplar.

Evidently this urban phenomenon known as “Shoe Tossing” or “Shoefiti”, while rumored to be an indication of a) a drug dealer, or b) a gang turf delineation, or c) a gang hit location or, d) a bully who chucked some kids Keds up into a tree, is not really all that sinister in nature.
