It’s Bicycle Season: Avoid ‘Dooring’

With the arrival of spring, and dryer road surfaces comes the annual return of the seasonal bicycle riders. This year the Montreal police have said they will crackdown on what is known as “Dooring”. This is what happens when a motorist or passenger opens their door without first checking to see if there is a cyclist coming along. It is illegal and will result in a fine and possible prosecution.

To save lives and limbs on the one hand, and fines and penalties on the other, I suggest the small addition of two or four well-placed signs on your car doors – just above the handle – that will remind folks to look before opening the door.

Think of this as a public service from DCMontreal!
