Scotties Tournament of Hearts: Flu Bug Sweeps Through Players and Broadcasters

… (there’s) a nasty flu bug that is sweeping  … yep, sweeping … the tournament.

The 2014 version of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts is currently underway in Montreal. Yes indeed … rocking the house. This annual round-robin affair determines the women’s national curling champions. Montreal isn’t exactly a hot-bed of curling activity, but the tournament does bring in some tourist dollars I imagine. What struck me from the little bit I saw on television today was the many empty seats. I hope the event will be better attended as it comes down to the conclusion this weekend.

Not only were there a number of fans missing, but also several players, broadcasters and technicians were absent due to a nasty flu bug that is sweeping  … yep, sweeping … the tournament. Evidently it’s just a 24-hour thing but during those hours it’s a real bastard – including a bad hack! How apt that the tourney is sponsored by a company that makes paper products including tissues.

With cold and flu season in full swing, the City of Montreal has once again taken the precautionary step of placing mobile  signs at various points around the city warning of the possibility of congestion.
