Happy Children’s Day: Will he see his shadow?

Today is Children’s Day. In a small town in Pennsylvania a child will be pulled from a burrow and if he or she sees his or her shadow there will be six more weeks … hey … wait a minute. That’s not right …

Actually Children’s Day was proclaimed in 1954 by the United Nations General Council to promote the health and well-being of the world’s children. You wouldn’t think you’d need a special day for that, but sadly it is estimated that 250,000 children will be unable to attend festivities today as they are busy fighting in various conflicts around the world. Yep, soldier children fighting in real wars with real weapons.

On various “Days” such as Dentist’s day or Teacher’s Day it is common to say “Give a Dentist a Hug Today”; so by all means give a child a hug today, just make sure you know the child and his or her parent or guardian is present and in agreement. Otherwise you may be in a whole heap of trouble!
