Sometimes it appears as though the world has gone mad. The latest news from Syria regarding the use of chemicals to kill hundreds of innocent people is chilling. The US is on alert and considering military action in the country once proof has been provided by United Nations officials who are in Syria. This seems to be a mere formality as most people believe the allegations to be true. Has the world waited too long on Syria?
Troubled Toronto mayor Rob Ford was all atwitter after his arm-wrestling match with Hulk Hogan. Watching the video it is embarrassing to see Ford gleeful reaction to his “victory” over the former wrestler. Doesn’t Rob get it? Hogan is a media hypester who let Ford win. A smile and a chuckle and a pat on the back were called for, not a victory dance. It seems everything Ford does ends up making him look silly.
Also in the news, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree banning demonstrations and rallies for two and a half months in Sochi around the 2014 Winter Olympics. I think this will only serve to increase the number of people wanting to express themselves publicly. I foresee the largest contingent at the Sochi Games being the Anonymous Team from all over the world.
Meanwhile in Winnipeg someone has broken into a restaurant and stolen – wait for it – a ceramic pig signed by Dan Aykroyd. Why he would have signed a pig is beyond me, but why anyone would want to risk legal action to get it is even weirder. Unless it was Aykroyd’s publicist trying to make it all go away; no, there are pictures. I think this is a little bit of an advertising scheme. I’m sure more people than ever now know about Lovey’s Barbeque!
