Deborah Coyne plays the “Trudeau Card” in leadership race

The Canadian government is pulling the penny from circulation, and is considering doing the same with the nickel. One Coyne that should be pulled is Deborah. She is the mother of Pierre Trudeau’s daughter Sarah, born when she was in her thirties and Trudeau,  no longer in public office and divorced, was in his late sixties.

The problem isn’t their relationship, that was entirely their business. What is questionable is that Ms. Coyne has opted to write her memoir recounting her time with Pierre Trudeau at the same time as she is running for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. A race that has as its current front-runner none other than Justin Trudeau, son of Pierre and half-brother of Sarah.

Let’s see, a woman who has been very private up until now, enters a leadership race and plays the “Trudeau Card” by releasing a book about herself and Pierre Trudeau – hmmm – call me skeptical but I think that’s a wee bit tacky primarily as Justin Trudeau is the one to beat.

As the old political adage goes: “If you can’t beat them, write about your affair with their father”!
