Newtown copycats cause church evacuation

Sadly the copycat mentality is alive and well and causing havoc in Newtown and surrounding areas in Connecticut. Yesterday’s church service, not the one attended by President Obama, had to be cut short and the church evacuated due to a bomb threat.

What kind of mind does something like that?

Today schools in two other Connecticut cities had to be locked down.  All schools in Ridgefield were  locked down because of a suspicious person who may have been armed. The  “all clear” has now been given. Is this just a matter of authorities being hyper-sensitive? That wouldn’t be surprising after last Friday’s tragedy.

Whatever the reason, the evacuations and lock downs are necessary if further massacres are to be avoided, but one has to wonder what effect they will have on the surviving youngsters. Will all trust be lost? They say children are resilient, but how much can they, and their parents, withstand before severe damage is done? To say nothing of emergency workers.

Copycats may get a moment’s thrill out of their acts, but when heaped on the already worn nerves in Newtown and area the consequences may be dire.
