Washingtonians wise to legalize gay marriage and marijuana at the same time

Jane Abbott Lighty, left, and Pete-e Petersen embrace after receiving the first same-sex marriage license in Washington state at the King County Recorder’s Office in Seattle, Washington.

With the approval of Referendum 74, Washington State voters agreed to legalize same-sex marriage in their state. Other states have legalized these unions before and many have opened the proverbial can of worms as the votes are never unanimous and those voting against same-sex marriage continue to protest and, in some cases, obstruct the marriages. In some cases bills are introduced to repeal gay marriages.

I don’t think Washington State will have too much of a problem because the electorate was smart enough to legalize marijuana at the same time they legalized same-sex marriages.

So those Washingtonians who may be cranky about same-sex marriages being legal in their state can mellow out with a joint – live and let live!
