The Avengers

The Avengers 1960s

So there I was, comfortably settled into the high-back cinema seat armed with a vat of overpriced popcorn and a garbage pail sized soft drink looking forward to finding out what John Steed and Emma Peel would get up to in this modern remake of The Avengers. Strangely the remake bears absolutely no resemblance to the original 1960s television series starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg. Not fair.

Okay…even I’m not daft enough to have really done that, but I must admit I am sadly surprised that during the plethora of pre-release hype for last weekend’s box-office smash winner, it seems no mention was made of the TV series that had the same title – none!!! How quickly we forget.
